The question, in short
Histogram shows distances travelled to work in km with frequency densities; use it to fill a grouped frequency table and estimate how many travelling over 35 km get a car allowance.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 3 marks
Use the histogram bars to complete the table giving the number of people in each of the three distance groups.
- 1Frequency = frequency density × class width
- 20 < d ≤ 5: 2.8 × 5 = 14
- 35 < d ≤ 20: 3.4 × 5 + 2 × 10 = 17 + 20 = 37
- 420 < d ≤ 50: 1.6 × 10 + 0.4 × 20 = 16 + 8 = 24
Answer| 0 < d ≤ 5 | 14 | | 5 < d ≤ 20 | 37 | | 20 < d ≤ 50 | 24 |
Part (b) · 1 mark
Estimate the number of people travelling more than 35 km, who receive a car allowance.
- 135 < d ≤ 50 is 15 km of the 30 < d ≤ 50 bar
- 20.4 × 15 = 6
