The question, in short
Using similar cones, find the volume of a frustum with top radius 4.2 cm, frustum height 4.5 cm and removed small cone height 7.5 cm.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Large cone: height = 4.5 + 7.5 = 12 cm, V = 1/3 × π × 4.2² × 12 = 221.67…
- 2Small cone radius: r/4.2 = 7.5/12, r = 2.625 cm
- 3Small cone V = 1/3 × π × 2.625² × 7.5 = 54.11…
- 4Frustum = 221.67… − 54.11… = 167.55… ≈ 168 cm³
Answer168 or 167.5 to 167.6
