The question, in short
A team has win probability 0.4. For 20 matches find expected wins, and complete a win/lose/draw probability table where losing is three times drawing.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Calculate the expected number of wins when the team plays 20 matches with win probability 0.4.
- 1Expected wins = 20 × 0.4
- 2= 8
Answer8
Part (b) · 3 marks
Complete the probability table given win 0.4 and that losing is three times as likely as drawing.
- 1P(lose) + P(draw) = 1 − 0.4 = 0.6
- 2lose : draw = 3 : 1, so 0.6 ÷ 4 = 0.15
- 3P(draw) = 0.15
- 4P(lose) = 3 × 0.15 = 0.45
Answerlose 0.45, draw 0.15
