The question, in short
From a grouped frequency table of 100 students' test marks across five class intervals, identify the modal class and estimate the mean mark.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State the class interval with the highest frequency, giving the lower and upper bounds.
- 1The highest frequency is 34
- 2Modal class is 60 < x ≤ 80
Answer60 < x ≤ 80
Part (b) · 4 marks
Use the table's frequencies and class intervals to calculate an estimate of the mean mark.
- 1Midpoints: 10, 30, 50, 70, 90
- 2Σfx = 4×10 + 20×30 + 31×50 + 34×70 + 11×90
- 3= 40 + 600 + 1550 + 2380 + 990 = 5560
- 4Mean ≈ 5560 ÷ 100 = 55.6
