The question, in short

Complete the table by finding the nth term expression for each of sequences A, B and C from their first five terms.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 1A: terms go down by 5, so −5n; 1st term 8 = −5 + 13
  2. 2A: nth term = 13 − 5n
  3. 3B: numerators 2, 3, 4, … = n + 1; denominators 1, 2, 3, … = n
  4. 4B: nth term = (n + 1)/n
  5. 5C: terms double each time: 1/2 = 2⁻¹, 1 = 2⁰, 2 = 2¹, …
  6. 6C: nth term = 2ⁿ⁻²

AnswerSequence A: 13 − 5n Sequence B: (n + 1)/n Sequence C: 2ⁿ⁻²
