0580/22 Oct/Nov 2021, Question 11: Speed-Time Graphs and Acceleration

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 22 (Extended) · Calculator · 3 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Complete a speed–time graph for a car that accelerates at 0.7 m/s² for 20 s to 14 m/s, cruises 210 m, then decelerates at 1.4 m/s² to rest.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Time at 14 m/s = 210 ÷ 14 = 15 s, so constant speed from t = 20 to t = 35
  2. 2Draw a horizontal line from (20, 14) to (35, 14)
  3. 3Time to stop = 14 ÷ 1.4 = 10 s, so the car stops at t = 35 + 10 = 45
  4. 4Draw a straight line from (35, 14) to (45, 0)

AnswerStraight line from (20, 14) to (35, 14) and straight line from (35, 14) to (45, 0)
