The question, in short
Speed–time graph for a car's first 15 seconds: rising from 0 to 14 m/s over 5 s, then constant at 14 m/s. Find the initial acceleration and the total distance travelled.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Find the car's acceleration over the first 5 seconds from the graph.
- 1Acceleration = gradient = 14 ÷ 5
- 2= 2.8 m/s²
Answer2.8
Part (b) · 2 marks
Find the total distance travelled in the 15 seconds.
- 1Distance = area under graph
- 2Triangle: 1/2 × 5 × 14 = 35
- 3Rectangle: (15 − 5) × 14 = 140
- 4Total = 35 + 140 = 175 m
Answer175
