Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Simplify n⁵ × n.
- 1n⁵ × n¹ = n⁵⁺¹ = n⁶
Answern⁶
Part (b) · 2 marks
Simplify 8x⁶ ÷ 2x².
- 18 ÷ 2 = 4 and x⁶ ÷ x² = x⁶⁻² = x⁴
- 2= 4x⁴
Answer4x⁴
Part (c) · 2 marks
Simplify (243y²⁰)^(2/5).
- 1243 = 3⁵, so 243^(2/5) = 3² = 9
- 2(y²⁰)^(2/5) = y⁸
- 3= 9y⁸
Answer9y⁸
