The question, in short
For triangle ABC shown to scale: measure angle ABC, construct the perpendicular bisector of AC with compasses and straight edge, and shade a region inside the triangle.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Measure the size of angle ABC from the diagram.
- 1Put the protractor centre on B with the zero line along BA
- 2Read the angle round to BC
- 3Angle ABC = 47° to 51° (accepted range)
Answer47 to 51
Part (b) · 2 marks
Using only compasses and a straight edge, construct the perpendicular bisector of side AC.
- 1With compasses set to more than half of AC, draw arcs centred on A above and below AC
- 2Keep the same radius and draw arcs centred on C crossing the first two arcs
- 3Rule a line through the two crossing points: this is the perpendicular bisector of AC
AnswerAcceptable bisector of line AC with correct arcs
Part (c) · 2 marks
Shade the part of triangle ABC closer to A than C and over 6 cm from B.
- 1Points nearer to A than to C lie on A's side of the perpendicular bisector of AC
- 2Draw an arc, centre B, radius 6 cm
- 3Shade the part of the triangle on A's side of the bisector and outside the arc (more than 6 cm from B)
AnswerCorrect region shaded
