The question, in short

Simplify a power of a product involving a²⁰, then expand and simplify the product of two binomials in c and d.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Simplify (16a²⁰)^(3/4), giving the result in simplest form.

  1. 116^(3/4) = (⁴√16)³ = 2³ = 8
  2. 2(a²⁰)^(3/4) = a^(20 × 3/4) = a¹⁵
  3. 3(16a²⁰)^(3/4) = 8a¹⁵

Answer8a¹⁵

Part (b) · 2 marks

Expand and simplify (2c + 9d)(4c − 3d).

  1. 1(2c + 9d)(4c − 3d) = 8c² − 6cd + 36cd − 27d²
  2. 2= 8c² + 30cd − 27d²

Answer8c² + 30cd − 27d²
