The question, in short

Evaluate a negative fractional power of 125, then simplify an algebraic fraction raised to the power 3/2.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Work out 125 raised to the power −1/3.

  1. 1125^(1/3) = ∛125 = 5
  2. 2125^(−1/3) = 1/5

Answer1/5 or 0.2

Part (b) · 2 marks

Simplify (a³ ÷ 4a) raised to the power 3/2.

  1. 1a³/(4a) = a²/4
  2. 2(a²/4)^(3/2) = (a²)^(3/2)/4^(3/2) = a³/(√4)³
  3. 3= a³/8

Answera³/8
