Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Write the ratio of elephants to giraffes from the first pie chart, simplified.

  1. 1Read the angles from the pie chart: elephant 150°, giraffe 75°.
  2. 2Elephants : giraffes = 150 : 75
  3. 3Divide both by 75: 2 : 1

Answer2 : 1

Part (b) · 2 marks

Given Jerry saw 8 lions, calculate how many giraffes he saw.

  1. 140° represents 8 lions
  2. 2So 1° represents 8 ÷ 40 = 0.2 animals
  3. 375° for giraffes: 75 × 0.2 = 15

Answer15

Part (c) · 1 mark

Decide if Lesley's claim about seeing more elephants is correct, giving a reason.

  1. 1Pie charts show proportions, not actual numbers
  2. 2We do not know the total number of animals each person saw
  3. 3So cannot compare actual numbers of elephants
