Part (a) · 2 marks
Simplify the fraction 15k⁴m³ divided by 5km² as far as possible.
- 115 ÷ 5 = 3
- 2k⁴ ÷ k = k³ (subtract the powers)
- 3m³ ÷ m² = m
- 4So the answer is 3k³m
Answer3k³m
Part (b) · 3 marks
Find the values of x satisfying 7 < 4x − 1 ≤ 17.
- 17 < 4x − 1 ≤ 17
- 27 + 1 < 4x ≤ 17 + 1
- 38 < 4x ≤ 18
- 48/4 < x ≤ 18/4
- 52 < x ≤ 4.5
Answer2 < x ≤ 4.5
