The question, in short

Solve a linear inequality in t, then use a diagram of region R bounded by three lines to write down the three inequalities defining R.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Solve the inequality 7 − 3t < 2t + 15 for t.

  1. 17 − 15 < 2t + 3t
  2. 2−8 < 5t
  3. 3t > −1.6

Answert > −1.6

Part (b) · 3 marks

From the diagram, write down three inequalities whose solution region is the shaded triangle R.

  1. 1Left boundary is the line x = 2: x ≥ 2
  2. 2Lower boundary is the line y = 3: y ≥ 3
  3. 3Sloping line through (0, 9) and (9, 0): x + y = 9
  4. 4Region is below it: x + y ≤ 9

Answerx ≥ 2, y ≥ 3, x + y ≤ 9
