The question, in short
Using a scale drawing of masts A and B at 1 cm to 2.5 km, find a bearing, a real distance, and locate a third mast C from given bearing and distance.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Find the bearing of A measured from B, using the scale drawing.
- 1Measure angle clockwise from north at B to line BA.
- 2Bearing of A from B is 050°.
Answer050 (accept 048 to 052)
Part (b) · 2 marks
Calculate the actual distance between A and B in km from the drawing and scale.
- 1Measure distance between A and B on diagram: 7 cm.
- 2Scale: 1 cm = 2.5 km.
- 37 × 2.5 = 17.5
Answer17.5 (accept 17 to 18)
Part (c) · 3 marks
Locate C, on a bearing of 115° from A and 20 km from B, marking it with a cross labelled C.
- 1Draw line from A at a bearing of 115°.
- 2Calculate distance from B: 20 km ÷ 2.5 = 8 cm.
- 3Draw arc of radius 8 cm centered at B.
- 4Mark intersection of line and arc with ×.
