The question, in short
Using an accurate scale drawing where 1 cm represents 500 m, find the bearing of station S from college C, then calculate how many of Charles's 0.44 m steps the straight walk from C to S takes.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Measure the bearing of S from C using the scale drawing and its North lines.
- 1Measure angle clockwise from north line at C to line joining C to S
- 2Obtain angle in range 138 to 142
- 3Answer given as 140
Answer140 (accept 138 to 142)
Part (b) · 4 marks
Find the real distance from C to S using the scale, then divide by 0.44 m to get Charles's steps, rounded to a whole number.
- 1Measure distance between C and S on diagram in cm, obtain value in range 5.8 to 6.2
- 2Multiply measured distance by 500 to convert to metres: e.g. 6.0 × 500 = 3000 m
- 3Divide total distance in metres by step length: 3000 ÷ 0.44 = 6818.18...
- 4Round to nearest whole number: 6818
Answer6818 (accept 6591 to 7045)
