The question, in short
Using P = (2a − c)/d with a = 58.4, c = 20, d = 3.6 given to stated accuracy, find the upper bound of P, showing working, to 2 decimal places.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1Bounds: a up to 58.45, c down to 19.5, d down to 3.55
- 2Largest P uses the largest a and the smallest c and d
- 32 × 58.45 − 19.5 = 97.4
- 497.4 ÷ 3.55 = 27.436…, so P = 27.44
