4MA1/2HR Jan 2020, Question 24: Perpendicular Lines

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 · Paper 2HR (Higher) · Calculator · 5 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Given line L₁: 5x + 10y = 8, find L₂ perpendicular to L₁ through (8, 6), then find area of triangle AOB where A is L₂'s x-intercept and B is L₂ at x = −3.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 1L₁: y = −0.5x + 0.8, so L₂ has gradient 2
  2. 2L₂ through (8, 6): y = 2x − 10
  3. 3A: y = 0 gives x = 5; B: x = −3 gives y = −16
  4. 4Area AOB = ½ × 5 × 16 = 40
