Part (b) · 3 marks
Work out (9.6 × 10¹⁴¹ + 6.4 × 10¹⁴⁰) ÷ (3.2 × 10¹⁶), giving the answer in standard form.
- 1Write both terms on the top with the same power: 9.6 × 10¹⁴¹ = 96 × 10¹⁴⁰
- 296 × 10¹⁴⁰ + 6.4 × 10¹⁴⁰ = 102.4 × 10¹⁴⁰
- 3102.4 × 10¹⁴⁰ = 1.024 × 10¹⁴²
- 4Divide: 1.024 ÷ 3.2 = 0.32 and 10¹⁴² ÷ 10¹⁶ = 10¹²⁶
- 50.32 × 10¹²⁶ = 3.2 × 10¹²⁵
