The question, in short
Complete a table of y values for y = x² − 4x + 3 at given x values, then plot the graph of the equation for x from −2 to 4 on a grid.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Fill in the missing y values in the table for y = x² − 4x + 3 at x = −2, 1, 2 and 4.
- 1Substitute each missing x into y = x² − 4x + 3
- 2x = −2: 4 + 8 + 3 = 15; x = 1: 1 − 4 + 3 = 0
- 3x = 2: 4 − 8 + 3 = −1; x = 4: 16 − 16 + 3 = 3
- 4Missing values: 15, 0, −1, 3
Answer15, 0, −1, 3
Part (b) · 2 marks
Draw the curve y = x² − 4x + 3 on the grid for x values between −2 and 4.
- 1Plot the points from part (a): (−2, 15), (−1, 8), (0, 3), (1, 0), (2, −1), (3, 0), (4, 3)
- 2Draw a smooth curve passing through all the plotted points
- 3Ensure the curve has a clear minimum at the bottom between x = 1 and x = 3
Answer(−2, 15) (−1, 8) (0, 3) (2, −1) (3, 0) (4, 3)
