The question, in short

On the given grid, plot the straight-line graph of y = 1 − 2x for x values between −2 and 3.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1x = −2: y = 1 − 2(−2) = 1 + 4 = 5
  2. 2x = −1: y = 1 − 2(−1) = 1 + 2 = 3
  3. 3x = 0: y = 1 − 2(0) = 1
  4. 4x = 1: y = 1 − 2(1) = 1 − 2 = −1
  5. 5x = 2: y = 1 − 2(2) = 1 − 4 = −3
  6. 6x = 3: y = 1 − 2(3) = 1 − 6 = −5
  7. 7Plot points (−2, 5), (−1, 3), (0, 1), (1, −1), (2, −3), (3, −5)
  8. 8Draw straight line through points from x = −2 to x = 3

AnswerA straight line through (−2, 5), (−1, 3), (0, 1), (1, −1), (2, −3), (3, −5)
