The question, in short

On the given grid, plot the straight-line graph of 5x + 2y = 10 for x values between −2 and 4.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Rearrange equation: 2y = 10 − 5x
  2. 2Divide by 2: y = 5 − 2.5x
  3. 3When x = −2, y = 5 − 2.5(−2) = 5 + 5 = 10
  4. 4When x = −1, y = 5 − 2.5(−1) = 5 + 2.5 = 7.5
  5. 5When x = 0, y = 5 − 2.5(0) = 5
  6. 6When x = 1, y = 5 − 2.5(1) = 2.5
  7. 7When x = 2, y = 5 − 2.5(2) = 5 − 5 = 0
  8. 8When x = 3, y = 5 − 2.5(3) = 5 − 7.5 = −2.5
  9. 9When x = 4, y = 5 − 2.5(4) = 5 − 10 = −5
  10. 10Plot points and draw straight line from x = −2 to x = 4

AnswerCorrect line from x = −2 to x = 4 passing through the points (−2, 10), (−1, 7.5), (0, 5), (1, 2.5), (2, 0), (3, −2.5), (4, −5)
