The question, in short
Line L has gradient 5 through (0, −3). Find its equation, then use the shaded region R on the grid to state the four inequalities defining it.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Write down an equation for the straight line with gradient 5 passing through (0, −3).
- 1y = mx + c
- 2Gradient m = 5
- 3(0, −3) is the y-intercept, so c = −3
- 4y = 5x − 3
Answery = 5x − 3
Part (b) · 2 marks
Using the grid showing shaded region R bounded by four lines, write down the inequalities that define R.
- 1Left edge x = 0, right edge x = 2
- 2Bottom edge y = 1, top edge y = 3
- 3R: x ≥ 0, x ≤ 2, y ≥ 1, y ≤ 3
Answer0 ≤ x ≤ 2, 1 ≤ y ≤ 3
