The question, in short
Using the given grid, carry out a reflection of the shaded triangle and identify the transformation linking two shaded triangles.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Draw the mirror image of the shaded triangle across the horizontal line y = 2.
- 1Each point moves to the same distance on the other side of y = 2
- 2(3, −1) and (5, −1) are 3 below y = 2, so they map to (3, 5) and (5, 5)
- 3(5, −4) is 6 below y = 2, so it maps to (5, 8)
- 4Image vertices: (3,5) (5,5) (5,8)
Answer(3,5) (5,5) (5,8)
Part (b) · 3 marks
State the single transformation, with all its details, that takes triangle A to triangle B.
- 1Same size and shape but turned, so it is a rotation
- 290° anticlockwise about (0, 0) sends (x, y) to (−y, x)
- 3(2, −3) → (3, 2), (4, −3) → (3, 4), (4, −6) → (6, 4): triangle B
- 4Rotation 90 degrees anticlockwise about (0,0)
AnswerRotation 90 degrees anticlockwise about (0,0)
