The question, in short
Given c = 4 and d = 7, evaluate 3c + 2d; with p = −6 and m = −2, evaluate 2p² + 3m; and write a formula for total eggs T from g small boxes of 6 and h large boxes of 12.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Substitute c = 4 and d = 7 into 3c + 2d and work out the value.
- 13 × 4 = 12
- 22 × 7 = 14
- 312 + 14 = 26
Answer26
Part (b) · 2 marks
Substitute p = −6 and m = −2 into 2p² + 3m and work out the value.
- 1(−6)² = 36
- 22 × 36 = 72
- 33 × (−2) = −6
- 472 + (−6) = 66
Answer66
Part (c) · 3 marks
Write a formula for T, the total number of eggs, in terms of g small boxes and h large boxes.
- 1Each small box has 6 eggs, so g boxes give 6g eggs
- 2Each large box has 12 eggs, so h boxes give 12h eggs
- 3Total eggs T = 6g + 12h
AnswerT = 6g + 12h
