The question, in short

Kye has n red cars, twice as many blue cars as red, and 7 more green than red. Find expressions for the total of these cars and for other cars given total T.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Write and simplify an expression in n for the total number of red, blue and green cars combined.

  1. 1Number of red cars = n
  2. 2Number of blue cars = 2n
  3. 3Number of green cars = n + 7
  4. 4Total = n + 2n + (n + 7)
  5. 5Total = 4n + 7

Answer4n + 7

Part (b) · 1 mark

Using total T and n, write an expression for cars that are not red, blue or green.

  1. 1Total cars = T
  2. 2Red, blue and green cars = 4n + 7
  3. 3Other cars = T − (4n + 7)

AnswerT − (4n + 7)
