The question, in short
Rearrange an equation to isolate y, then form an expression for the total number of crayons T bought from b boxes of 12 and p packets of 3.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Rearrange w = 3y − d so that y is expressed in terms of w and d.
- 1w = 3y − d
- 2Add d to both sides: w + d = 3y
- 3Divide by 3: y = (w + d)/3
Answery = (w + d)/3
Part (b) · 3 marks
Using 12 crayons per box and 3 per packet, write T as a formula involving b and p.
- 1b boxes of 12 crayons: 12b
- 2p packets of 3 crayons: 3p
- 3T = 12b + 3p
AnswerT = 12b + 3p
