The question, in short
Using a grid from −5 to 5, identify point A, plot D at (−2, −4), find the midpoint of B(−4, 1) and C(2, 3), and draw the line x = 4.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State the coordinates of point A shown on the grid.
- 1Read the coordinates of point A from the grid.
- 2(3, −1)
Answer(3, −1)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Plot and label point D at (−2, −4) on the grid.
- 1From the origin go 2 left (x = −2)
- 2Then go 4 down (y = −4)
- 3Mark a cross at (−2, −4) and label it D
Answer(−2, −4)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Calculate the coordinates of the midpoint of the segment joining B(−4, 1) and C(2, 3).
- 1B = (−4, 1) and C = (2, 3)
- 2x: (−4 + 2) ÷ 2 = −1
- 3y: (1 + 3) ÷ 2 = 2
- 4Midpoint = (−1, 2)
Answer(−1, 2)
Part (d) · 1 mark
Draw on the grid the straight line whose equation is x = 4.
- 1Draw a vertical line where x = 4.
- 2Extend the line from y = −5 to y = 5 or full grid.
- 3x = 4
Answerx = 4
