The question, in short
Using the grid, carry out a reflection of the shaded shape across x = 6, then identify the single transformation taking triangle P to triangle Q.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Draw the mirror image of the shaded shape after reflecting it in the vertical line x = 6.
- 1Identify the original vertices of the shaded shape from the grid
- 2Reflect each vertex in the line x = 6 by calculating the horizontal distance from each point to the line x = 6
- 3For each point, move the same distance to the opposite side of x = 6
- 4Plot the new points: (6,4), (10,5), (11,1), (9,3)
- 5(6, 4) (10, 5) (11, 1) (9, 3)
Answer(6, 4) (10, 5) (11, 1) (9, 3)
Part (b) · 3 marks
State the one transformation, with all its details, that moves triangle P exactly onto triangle Q.
- 1P and Q are the same shape and the same way up, but Q is bigger: an enlargement
- 2P's base runs from x = 1 to x = 4 (length 3); Q's from x = 3 to x = 12 (length 9)
- 3Scale factor = 9 ÷ 3 = 3
- 4Each vertex of Q is 3 times P's coordinates, e.g. (1, 1) → (3, 3), so the centre is the origin
- 5Enlargement Scale factor 3 [Centre] (0, 0)
AnswerEnlargement Scale factor 3 [Centre] (0, 0)
