The question, in short

On the given grid, plot the straight-line graph of y = −2x + 3 using x values from −1 to 5.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Substitute x values into y = −2x + 3
  2. 2x = −1 gives y = 5; x = 0 gives y = 3; x = 1 gives y = 1
  3. 3x = 2 gives y = −1; x = 3 gives −3; x = 4 gives −5; x = 5 gives −7
  4. 4Plot the points and join them with a ruler from x = −1 to x = 5
  5. 5A straight line through (−1, 5), (0, 3), (1, 1), (2, −1), (3, −3), (4, −5) and (5, −7)

AnswerA straight line through (−1, 5), (0, 3), (1, 1), (2, −1), (3, −3), (4, −5) and (5, −7)
