The question, in short
Using the grid with triangles A and B, identify the single transformation taking A to B, then move A by the vector (−4, 3) and label it C.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 3 marks
State fully the one transformation that carries triangle A onto triangle B.
- 1Triangle A has sides 2 and 1; triangle B has sides 6 and 3.
- 2Scale factor = 6 ÷ 2 = 3, so it is an enlargement.
- 3Join each vertex of B back to its matching vertex of A and extend the lines.
- 4The lines meet at (3, 0), the centre of enlargement.
- 5Enlargement, scale factor 3, centre (3, 0)
Answerenlargement, scale factor 3, centre (3, 0)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Shift triangle A by the vector (−4, 3) on the grid and name the result C.
- 1apply translation vector (−4, 3) to each vertex of triangle A
- 2original vertices of triangle A: (5, 1), (5, 3), (6, 1)
- 3(5, 1) + (−4, 3) = (1, 4)
- 4(5, 3) + (−4, 3) = (1, 6)
- 5(6, 1) + (−4, 3) = (2, 4)
- 6plot new points and draw triangle C at (1, 4), (1, 6), (2, 4)
AnswerTriangle drawn at (1, 4) (1, 6) (2, 4)
