The question, in short
On the given grid, plot the straight-line graph of y = 4 − 2x for x values from −1 to 4.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1calculate y when x = −1: y = 4 − 2(−1) = 4 + 2 = 6, so point is (−1, 6)
- 2calculate y when x = 0: y = 4 − 2(0) = 4, so point is (0, 4)
- 3calculate y when x = 1: y = 4 − 2(1) = 4 − 2 = 2, so point is (1, 2)
- 4calculate y when x = 2: y = 4 − 2(2) = 4 − 4 = 0, so point is (2, 0)
- 5calculate y when x = 3: y = 4 − 2(3) = 4 − 6 = −2, so point is (3, −2)
- 6calculate y when x = 4: y = 4 − 2(4) = 4 − 8 = −4, so point is (4, −4)
- 7draw a straight line through all these points from x = −1 to x = 4
Answera straight line passing through the points (−1, 6), (0, 4), (1, 2), (2, 0), (3, −2), and (4, −4)
