Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 · Paper 1H (Higher) · Calculator · 4 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using a cumulative frequency graph of heights in centimetres for 50 plants, estimate the median, a class frequency, and a count above a given height.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Use the graph to estimate the median height of the 50 plants.

  1. 1Locate the median position on the cumulative frequency axis: 50 ÷ 2 = 25
  2. 2Find the height corresponding to cumulative frequency 25 on the graph
  3. 3Read off the height: approximately 28 centimetres

Answer28

Part (b) · 1 mark

Use the graph to find the frequency of plants with heights in the interval 30 < Height ≤ 40.

  1. 1Go up from Height = 40 on the horizontal axis to the curve and read the cumulative frequency there
  2. 2Go up from Height = 30 to the curve and read the cumulative frequency there
  3. 3Frequency for 30 < Height ≤ 40 = (reading at 40) − (reading at 30)
  4. 4The two readings differ by 14, so the frequency is 14

Answer14

Part (c) · 2 marks

Use the graph to estimate how many plants are taller than 35 centimetres.

  1. 1Find cumulative frequency at height = 35 cm: approximately 38
  2. 2Subtract from total number of plants: 50 − 38 = 12
