The question, in short
Using a quadrilateral ABCD with angles 78°, 128° and 86°, and isosceles triangle CDE with CD = CE on straight line DEF where angle CEF = 125°, find angle BCE, justifying each step.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 5 marks
- 1180 − 125 = 55
- 2angle CED = 55°
- 3CD = CE so triangle CDE is isosceles, therefore angle CDE = angle CED = 55°
- 4angle DCE = 180 − (55 + 55) = 70°
- 5sum of angles in quadrilateral ABCD = 360°
- 6angle BCD = 360 − (86 + 78 + 128) = 68°
- 7angle BCE = angle BCD + angle DCE = 68 + 70 = 138°
