The question, in short
Using the grid showing shapes P and Q, identify the single transformation taking P to Q, then draw the reflection of P in the line x = 5 and label it R.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 3 marks
State the one transformation, with all its details, that carries shape P onto shape Q.
- 1Each side of Q is 3 times the matching side of P
- 2Lines through matching corners meet at (0, 0)
- 3Enlargement, scale factor 3, centre (0, 0)
AnswerEnlargement, scale factor 3, centre (0, 0)
Part (b) · 2 marks
Draw shape P's mirror image across the line x = 5 on the grid and name it R.
- 1x = 5 is a vertical mirror line; y-values stay the same
- 2x = 3 is 2 left of the line, so it goes to x = 7
- 3Likewise x = 2 → x = 8 and x = 1 → x = 9
- 4R has vertices (7, 2), (7, 4), (8, 3), (9, 3), (9, 2)
AnswerShape with vertices at (7, 2), (7, 4), (8, 3), (9, 3), (9, 2)
