WMA11/01 Jan 2025, Question 1: Integration: Undoing Differentiation
Pearson Edexcel International AS Level Mathematics · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11) · Calculator · 4 marks
The question, in short
Integrate 8x³ − 6√x − 2/(5x³) with respect to x and give the result in its simplest form.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Write as 8x³ − 6x^(1/2) − (2/5)x^(−3)
- 2∫ 8x³ dx = 2x⁴
- 3∫ 6x^(1/2) dx = 6 × (2/3)x^(3/2) = 4x^(3/2)
- 4∫ (2/5)x^(−3) dx = (2/5) × x^(−2)/(−2) = −(1/5)x^(−2)
- 5Answer: 2x⁴ − 4x^(3/2) + 1/(5x²) + c
Answer2x⁴ − 4x^(3/2) + 1/(5x²) + c
