WMA11/01 Jun 2024, Question 1: Integration: Undoing Differentiation
Pearson Edexcel International AS Level Mathematics · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11) · Calculator · 3 marks
The question, in short
Integrate 10x⁴ − 3/(2x³) − 7 with respect to x, giving each term in its simplest form.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1Write 3/(2x³) as (3/2)x⁻³
- 2∫ 10x⁴ dx = 2x⁵
- 3∫ −(3/2)x⁻³ dx = −(3/2) × x⁻²/(−2) = (3/4)x⁻²
- 4∫ −7 dx = −7x
- 5Answer: 2x⁵ + 3/(4x²) − 7x + c
Answer2x⁵ + 3/(4x²) − 7x + c
