0580/23 Oct/Nov 2022, Question 15: Area Under a Speed-Time Graph

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 23 (Extended) · Calculator · 5 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using a speed–time graph where a car accelerates uniformly from rest for 15 seconds to 30 m/s, find the acceleration and then the time T in minutes for a total distance of 45 km.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Calculate the acceleration during the first 15 seconds of the journey.

  1. 1Acceleration = 30 ÷ 15 = 2 m/s²

Answer2

Part (b) · 4 marks

Given uniform acceleration for 15 seconds then constant 30 m/s, find T minutes when total distance is 45 kilometres.

  1. 145 km = 45 000 m
  2. 2Let t seconds: 1/2 × 15 × 30 + 30(t − 15) = 45 000
  3. 3225 + 30t − 450 = 45 000
  4. 430t = 45 225, so t = 1507.5 s
  5. 5T = 1507.5 ÷ 60 = 25.125

Answer25.125
