اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Expand and collect terms in a linear expression, then use a given ratio of two variables to work out a numerical value for a fraction.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Multiply out both brackets and gather like terms to give a simpler expression.

  1. 13(3a − 4) + 2(2 − a) = 9a − 12 + 4 − 2a
  2. 2= 7a − 8

Answer7a − 8

Part (b) · 1 mark

Using 4x = 3y, work out the number that (8x + y) ÷ y equals.

  1. 14x = 3y, so 8x = 6y
  2. 2(8x + y)/y = (6y + y)/y = 7y/y = 7
