Part (a) · 2 marks
Find the value of x that satisfies 7x + 3 = x − 18.
- 17x − x = −18 − 3
- 26x = −21
- 3x = −21 / 6
- 4x = −3.5
Answer−3.5
Part (b) · 2 marks
Rearrange t = 7w + 3 so that w is the subject.
- 1t = 7w + 3
- 2t − 3 = 7w
- 3w = (t − 3) / 7
Answer(t − 3) / 7
Part (c) · 3 marks
Write a formula for total cost T in terms of p and r, with pencils at 2 dollars and rulers at 3 dollars.
- 1Cost of pencils: 2 × p = 2p
- 2Cost of rulers: 3 × r = 3r
- 3Total cost: T = 2p + 3r
AnswerT = 2p + 3r
