The question, in short
Algebra tasks: expand a product, factorise an expression, rearrange a formula for p, and form a formula for total seeds T from m boxes of 10 and n packets of 6.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Multiply the bracket by the term outside it and simplify the result.
- 1x(5 − x) = 5x − x²
Answer5x − x²
Part (b) · 1 mark
Write the expression as a product of a common numerical factor and a bracket.
- 13y − 21 = 3(y − 7)
Answer3(y − 7)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Rearrange the equation so that p stands alone on one side.
- 1f = 3p − d
- 2f + d = 3p
- 3p = (f + d)/3
Answerp = (f + d)/3
Part (d) · 3 marks
Express T using m and n, with 10 seeds per box and 6 per packet.
- 1Each box has 10 seeds, so m boxes give 10m seeds
- 2Each packet has 6 seeds, so n packets give 6n seeds
- 3Total seeds T = 10m + 6n
AnswerT = 10m + 6n
