The question, in short
Using a grid with points P, Q and R marked, give coordinates, complete a rectangle PQRS, and locate the midpoint of PR.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State the x and y values for point Q from the grid.
- 1Read the coordinates of point Q from the grid.
- 2(2, 3)
Answer(2, 3)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Determine the coordinates of S so that P, Q, R and S form a rectangle.
- 1P is at (−3, 3), Q is at (2, 3), R is at (2, −1).
- 2For PQRS to be a rectangle, S must align vertically with P and horizontally with R.
- 3So S has the same x-coordinate as P: −3, and the same y-coordinate as R: −1.
- 4(−3, −1)
Answer(−3, −1)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Calculate the coordinates of the point halfway between P and R.
- 1P is at (−3, 3), R is at (2, −1).
- 2Midpoint x-coordinate: (−3 + 2) / 2 = −1 / 2 = −0.5.
- 3Midpoint y-coordinate: (3 + (−1)) / 2 = 2 / 2 = 1.
- 4(−0.5, 1)
Answer(−0.5, 1)
