The question, in short
On a number line from −3 to 3, represent −2 ≤ y < 1, and list every integer n satisfying −3.4 < n ≤ 2.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Show the inequality −2 ≤ y < 1 on the given number line labelled y.
- 1Draw a number line.
- 2Place a closed (shaded) circle at −2 to include −2.
- 3Place an open (unshaded) circle at 1 to exclude 1.
- 4Draw a line between the two circles to represent all values of y from −2 to 1, including −2 but not including 1.
Answernumber line with a shaded circle at −2, unshaded circle at 1, and a line joining them
Part (b) · 2 marks
List all integer values of n that satisfy −3.4 < n ≤ 2.
- 1List integers greater than −3.4 and less than or equal to 2.
- 2−3 is greater than −3.4, so include −3.
- 3−2, −1, 0, 1 are all in range.
- 42 is included because n ≤ 2.
- 5So the integers are −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2.
Answer−3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2
