The question, in short
A right-angled triangle has legs 4x cm and (9x − 18) cm and hypotenuse (6x + 11) cm, with perimeter 126 cm. Find its area.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 4 marks
- 14x + (6x + 11) + (9x − 18) = 126
- 219x − 7 = 126
- 319x = 133
- 4x = 7
- 59x − 18 = 9 × 7 − 18 = 63 − 18 = 45
- 64x = 4 × 7 = 28
- 70.5 × 45 × 28 = 630
