The question, in short
Using the grid with triangles A and B, identify the single transformation taking A to B, then draw the enlargement of A by scale factor 2 about O, labelled C.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
State the one transformation, with all its details, that carries triangle A onto triangle B.
- 1B is a mirror image of A, so this is a reflection
- 2Matching corners (2, 1) and (−4, 1) are halfway either side of x = (2 + (−4)) ÷ 2 = −1
- 3Reflection in the line x = −1
AnswerReflection in the line x = −1
Part (b) · 2 marks
Draw triangle C as the image of A after enlarging by factor 2 centred at O.
- 1Centre O is the origin, so multiply every coordinate of A by 2
- 2(2, 1) → (4, 2), (2, 4) → (4, 8), (4, 1) → (8, 2)
- 3Draw and label triangle C with vertices (4, 2), (4, 8), (8, 2)
AnswerTriangle with vertices at (4, 2) (4, 8) (8, 2)
