The question, in short
Factorise the linear expression 6x − 15, then form a formula for the bolts T left after Samira fills and sells packets from c boxes of 200 bolts, with 50 bolts per packet and d packets sold.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Rewrite 6x − 15 as a product of a common factor and a bracket.
- 16x − 15
- 2Factor out 3: 3(2x − 5)
Answer3(2x − 5)
Part (b) · 3 marks
Express T using c and d, accounting for 200 bolts per box and 50 per packet.
- 1Each box has 200 bolts, so c boxes give 200c bolts
- 2Each packet uses 50 bolts, so d packets use 50d bolts
- 3Bolts left = total bolts − bolts used
- 4T = 200c − 50d
AnswerT = 200c − 50d
