The question, in short

A circle has diameter PTQ and chord RTS meeting at T, with TQ = 3 cm, ST = 4 cm and TR = 12 cm. Work out the circle's radius.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Intersecting chords: PT × TQ = RT × TS
  2. 2PT × 3 = 12 × 4 = 48, so PT = 16
  3. 3Diameter PQ = 16 + 3 = 19 cm
  4. 4Radius = 19 ÷ 2 = 9.5
