4MA1/1HR Jun 2025, Question 23: Chord Properties

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 · Paper 1HR (Higher) · Calculator · 5 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Two chords of a circle intersect at T, with segment lengths PT = 3y − 5, QT = y + 3, RT = 4x and ST = x + 2 cm. Use the intersecting chords result to find y in terms of x.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 1PT × TR = QT × TS
  2. 2(3y − 5) × 4x = (y + 3)(x + 2)
  3. 312xy − 20x = xy + 2y + 3x + 6
  4. 412xy − xy − 2y = 23x + 6
  5. 5y(11x − 2) = 23x + 6
  6. 6y = (23x + 6)/(11x − 2)

Answery = (23x + 6)/(11x − 2)
