The question, in short
Using a square grid with points A, B and C marked, find C's coordinates, measure BC in centimetres, and place point D so ABCD forms a parallelogram.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State the coordinates of point C from the grid.
- 1Read the coordinates of point C from the grid.
- 2C is located at (2, −1).
Answer(2, −1)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Use a ruler to find how long BC is, answering in centimetres.
- 1Measure the distance between B and C on the grid in centimetres.
- 2The length of BC is approximately 3.6 cm.
Answer3.6 (accept 3.4 to 3.8)
Part (c) · 1 mark
Mark and label point D on the grid so that ABCD is a parallelogram.
- 1To form a parallelogram ABCD, vector AB must equal vector DC.
- 2Point A is at (0, 1), B is at (3, 1), so vector AB is (3, 0).
- 3Point C is at (2, −1), so to find D, subtract vector (3, 0) from C: (2 − 3, −1 − 0) = (−1, −1).
- 4Mark point D at (−1, −1) with a cross and label it D.
AnswerD marked at (−1, −1)
