Part (a) · 2 marks
Write down the equation of the straight line with gradient 5 passing through (0, −3).
- 1y = mx + c with gradient m = 5
- 2(0, −3) is the y-intercept, so c = −3
- 3y = 5x − 3
Answery = 5x − 3
Part (b) · 2 marks
Using the shaded region R on the grid, write down the four inequalities that define R.
- 1Left and right edges: x = 0 and x = 2
- 2Bottom and top edges: y = 1 and y = 3
- 3R: 0 ≤ x ≤ 2, 1 ≤ y ≤ 3
Answer0 ≤ x ≤ 2, 1 ≤ y ≤ 3
